The movie begins with Superman (Brandon Routh) coming back from space after searching for survivors from his home planet, Krypton, for five years. He comes back to find everyone has moved on and does not need Superman anymore. Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) has even moved on, which is pointed out by the Pulitzer she won for her article Why the World Doesn't Need Superman. Superman's alter ego, Clark Kent goes back to work at the Daily Planet to find Lois has a new love interest and a five-year-old son. Routh is perfect in both roles as the strong, confident Superman and the clumsy, lovable Clark Kent. Bosworth's portrayal of Lois Lane can be described as nothing but fabulous. She is strong and confident, as Lois always has been, and yet can play the dame in distress as well. Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey) is incredible in this film. The plot is Luthor uses Kryptonite to create a new continent in the world to sell as real estate. The problem with this is it will take the destruction of a large portion of North America to do it. Mixing in the villainous Lex Luthor with the campy version from the original movies, Spacey really shows how disgustingly evil, and yet funny, Luthor can be. Taking nothing away from the acting of all involved in the film, the real star of the movie is the special effects. The trailers for the movie give away only a small glimpse as to what technology has allowed film makers to do. What director Bryan Singer and the special effects team were able to do was bring Superman to the screen the way he was meant to be seen. Despite all the incredible things they were able to do there was still a few parts that left me wanting something more. The end of the movie really dragged and without giving away the end, let's just say that Superman with an oxygen mask was very stupid. Superman doesn't need air to live. Regardless of the later part of the movie, Superman Returns is a must see for anyone who wants to have a good time again and wants to see a superhero they can believe in. I would definitely recommend this film. 0 7 . 1 7 . 0 6
