A scene from The Hole.
The Hole at the Theater at Saint Clement’s
By Jeremy Grand
Saint Clement’s Episcopal Church is home to a wonderful small theater within its walls: stadium seating, a rustic brick façade and a nice sized stage. And after seeing The Hole, one might think that if the building wasn’t made of brick the whole place would burn to the ground into a sulfuric swirl of hellfire and damnation.
Cocaine, liquor, full frontal male nudity, hookers, queers, drag queens and a gold bikini-clad, blow-sniffing God are just a few of the reasons one may get nervous sitting in a church surrounded by all of this blatant blasphemy. But the atmosphere is just one of the elements that makes this musical such a guilty pleasure.

Queen LaQueefa

The Hole follows the sexual escapades of Nicky, a skinny, punky, gay boy with low self-esteem; his therapist, who is one of the causes of this terrible self-esteem, who herself has a penchant for a good, hot, lesbian hooker; Nadia, a prostitute with a cocaine problem, who is a bad influence on her best friend Nicky, and who has a mixed race baby (named Baby GaGa) whom she plans to sell on the black market; and the irritating teacher/friend/mommy/cougar Gloria who tags along with Nicky and Nadia to the club “The Hole.”
The majority of the show takes place here at the Hole, where Nicky is on the hunt for a boyfriend (scrapping the one he was to meet there, Alex, after finding out he was a minor); Nadia is trying to scrape off the annoyance of her Hole DJ super-lesbian lady friend; and Gloria is on the hunt for some action (which she finds in her student, 16-year-old Alex).
The Hole, although without a real sturdy plot or moral (party ‘til you die), was a raucous, hilarious and all around good, fun time for all with a caustic sense of humor. From the overgrown Baby GaGa being left at the coat check, to the hilarious and bitchy drag Queen LaQueefa, the selfish and wonderfully trashy therapist, to the raunchy and pussy obsessed Didi, the entire cast was out of this world and superbly talented.
For a great night out, go to The Hole, have a great time, and of course, party ‘til you die.
The cast of The Hole includes: Jennifer Anderson (Velma), Joey Calveri (Ensemble/Male Cover), Nicole Dalto (Troubadour 2/Ensemble), Ari Gold (Alvin/God), Melissa Grohowski (Ensemble/SB Gloria-Nadia), Kako Kitano (Troubadour/Ensemble), Scott Martin (Alex), Alex Michaels (Phil), Jacques Mitchell (Johnny), Kaitlin Monte (Nadia), Carolyn Montegomery (Therapist), Joey Murray (Nicky), Xavier Rice (Baby GaGa), Stephanie Spano (Didi) and Amy Elaine Warner (Gloria). The band incudes: Justin Hosek (bass), Kurt Gellersted (guitar), Andrew Potenza (drums) and Robert Baumgartner Jr. (keyboards).
